Year 3 -2 August 2026 -Cape Town-South Africa
I woke at about 7.30am and it was the start of a lovely day. I had bought some fruit the day before and so had my usual fruit and yoghurt breakfast and I had chucked out anything going off in the fridge.
I was meeting the riggers at 9.00am tomorrow morning to tell me what they had found and no one would come today being a Sunday.
The water maker people are coming on Tuesday so I cannot pack things away from the saloon which has stuff everywhere and I hope the hot water tank people will come on Monday which will be good so I can get the water system back.
I therefore started on the forepeak and cleaned and prepared that cabin for the next occupant(s) and did the same for the bunk room. This took some time and I sorted out the sheets so each cabin has its own spare set and top sheet for when we no longer need duvets which will be as we get nearer to the equator.
This took me most of the morning and after lunch I started on my cabin and prepared that, put my overnight bag away and got the spares out for the generator service. I also got the right large map out for the Southern Atlantic part of my journey and put the Indian ocean maps away. I tidied up and wood polished.
Once I had done that I had some rare time to read and sat on the deck in the sun relaxing before the sun went down. As the sun went down fog arrived and I could hardly see across to the next pontoon. I could hear the lighthouse sounding its horn every 30 seconds or so. It really does cool down very quickly once the sun goes down and I suppose cold air over the sea causes the fog – Advection fog as it is called.
I stayed in and had warmed up the cabin before it got cold and had an evening in and watched another film.
Lots to sort out tomorrow.
As I took no pictures today the picture of the day is of a view back to Cape Town as we went to Robben Island.
Need/Opportunity Year Three
I am now on the way to Durban and will then head for Cape Town and then on to St Helena, Azores and back to the UK.
