Year 3 -19 May 2026 –Port Louis - Mauritius
We had another lie in and then enjoyed some bircher museli for breakfast. Rashid came at 8.30am to collect the gas cylinder which he was filling for me. I introduced him to the ladies and we chatted with him about a tour of the island. He suggested a day tour of the South of the island which we agreed to do on Thursday. Erika has booked an ebike tour for all of us on Friday which is Northeast of the island which is just for the morning. Rashid agreed to take us there and then after to show us the largest garden in the Indian Ocean up there and then to bring us back.
Jerome came about 8.45 am and the first job was to put up the staysail sail so we carried from the galley on deck and it went up well and is now in situ. It is good to have that fixed relatively easily. We put monel wire on the shackles to prevent them coming undone.
Jerome said there were no 24v Mastervolt chargers here in Mauritius. I will therefore have to try and get another sent out here. Jerome said he would come back at 2.30-3.00pm to put on the windex which he erected. He took away the steps to be repaired by a carpenter.
Unfortunately the toilet in the double cabin was blocked again. I therefore set about trying to unblock ity doing the things that the guy in Uligan did. The pipe to the valve works and was cleared. The pipe from there to the tank seemed clear. I went out and put a hose into the tank and you could see that was clearing as well. The macerator worked but the bowl was not going out. I did what I could and so will ask Jerome to look at it. Very annoying. I rang him at 3.00pm and he said he cannot come this afternoon and will come at 9.00am tomorrow.
Joyce and I then set about washing Stormbird down from front to back. She was covered in salt and she looked a lot better after the washdown. We then all cleaned inside and had to go under the galley floor to find the forks and spoons which had fallen out of the cutlery draws due to the heel on the passage. Carolyn and Erika went and bought some lunch from the food market which was nice so we had a break. We then continued with our deep clean.
Carolyn and Erika went off to find a physio for Carolyn’s leg. She had pulled a muscle about 10 days ago.
Rashid brought the gas cylinder back filled which was good. I spoke with Keith Winstanley which was good and he is much better and off any medicines and is very much planning to come back to Mauritius for the trip to Cape Town but yet to look at flights. This was great news and a relief to me. When I had finished I had a shave and a shower and got changed. Joyce took us off for an ice cream and they seem to have many ice cream outlets here.
Carolyn and Erika returned and talked about this great massage place they had found and we should go back tomorrow.
We then went out to a seafood restaurant called Ocean Bisket and we had a good fish meal which we all enjoyed.
It had been a productive day with things still to do. Jerome says he will come at 9.00am so lets see.
The picture of the day is the view from Stormbird in the basin which happened to have a rainbow at the time.
