Year 3 -15 June 2026 -Port Quest-La Reunion
It was a lovely sunny day when we woke and we had a good papaya granola breakfast. We chatted and decided we would hire a car for the week and Carolyn and Joyce decided they would leave a day early to go their hotel in the centre of the island where they were doing some walking.
Hisham contacted a local hire care company and they agreed to come to the port to collect us and to help sort out the paperwork. Carolyn & Joyce needed to hire as car as well so we both hired from the same company. Hisham, Carolyn and I went with the man when he arrived and went off to sort the paperwork which took longer than I imagined.
When we were finished Hisham went off to the optician as he had broken his glasses and we agreed to pick him up when he was finished. I drove back to Stormbird and Carolyn followed me on the way back.
Hisham then said he was finished and so we all headed off to meet him in two cars. We found the opticians and then Hisham suggested a restaurant nearby. This did not look great when we got there and so we looked up another fish restaurant and decided to walk there.
We walked there and found that we were next to the Chinese shack we had been to the day before.
We found a table under sun umbrellas and actually had a very good meal and it was a long lazy lunch but we only had some beer.
After lunch we returned to Stormbird but went to find a Boulangerie to get some bread. This meant we saw quite a bit more of the town which is quite substantial. When we got back to the boat we rested. I tried to sort out the predict wind tracking page which seems to have not updated since Mauritius. It is some technical thing which I could not seem to resolve. I went for a walk around the marina and there were lots of boats in different state of repair and it is quite a busy area.
We then had a sundowner on the aft deck and a bits and pieces type of supper as we had had quite a large lunch.
We will go to the tourist office tomorrow and work out a plan for touring the island. I had emailed the weather man Des and we are considering leaving on the 21st. However, there is a system on the 28th which may be interesting. Des says we need to leave it nearer to the time and make a decision 48 hours in advance really.
We shall see more of the island tomorrow and we are looking forward to exploring.
The picture of the day is one of the streets in Port Quest.
