Year 3 -10 June 2026 -Grand Baie- Mauritius- Full Crew
We woke as normal and had papaya for breakfast with granola and yoghurt. We also had some toast which Joyce was insistent on making.
Hisham realised that he had left his hat at the restaurant from the day before so he had to leave earlier than planned to collect it. He had to go there on the way as he was returning the car to Port Louis. Carolyn and Joyce decided to go with him. I therefore took them ashore about 8.15am and dropped them off.
I tried the generator and it did start but it still took a bit of time. I therefore rang Jerome and he will come tomorrow to look at it again.
I therefore went through my general briefing with John and Keith joined and we then went through the boat outside with him. This took a little time but we then had some tea. We decided to go ashore to have a shower and John wanted to go to the shops for a few things. We went ashore, showered and left our bags and then we walked along the beach into town. It was a lovely day and the boats were bobbing about on the blue water. The wind had died down and it was a calm seaside feel. John went off to the mall and Keith and I walked on and I decided to show him the Beach House, the bar/restaurant, on the beach which we have been to a few times. It opened as we arrived and so well – they offered us a beer – well it would be rude to refuse! It was great to chat and look over the harbour on a lovely sunny day and it felt good to be alive. John joined us and said this was the bar that was started by an ex South African rugby player and he had been here before many years ago. We decided to have lunch and an enjoyed a good fish meal.
Once we were done we walked back along the beach to the yacht club. John went back into town to the ATM and Keith & I returned to Stormbird for some tea.
Hisham, Joyce and Carolyn went to collect Hisham’s hat and then into Port Louis. They walked around and went into the market and the gardens in Port Louis. They returned to the yacht club having bought some tuna steaks-enough for supper and to freeze for a meal.
We had a cocktail on the aft deck. There was not much of a sunset as it was quite cloudy. We prepared the tuna steaks which were quite thick and like a fillet steak. Once we cooked these we had them with a large salad with French bread and the tuna was excellent.
We have arranged to go on a tour tomorrow to the three islands off the top of Mauritius and so it will be our last day before we return to Port Louis.
The picture of the day is the 6 of us having supper in the cockpit.
