Year 3 -10 August 2026 -Cape Town-South Africa
It was quite cold and grey when I woke and I had my usual breakfast. I met Paul and Judith as they had checked out of their apartment and left me their bags whilst they went to Robben Island. It was to be a busy day and so after breakfast I went to the supermarket and go some things we are likely to need over the next few days.
This took me some time and then I checked on the cabins and made sure all was looking good.
Mark Malitskie rang to say he was in a cab from the airport and he arrived about 12.45pm. It was great to see him and I brought him back to Stormbird where he dumped his stuff. He had cousins in Cape Town and made contact with them and arranged to meet them at 3.00pm by the aquarium.
Paul and Judith had been to Robben Island and they decided to have some lunch and came to the about 3.30pm. Mark brought his cousins to see the boat and he showed them round. Paul and Judith came to get Judith’s bag and then Paul got her in a taxi to the airport. She was going home after a great two week holiday.
David was on his way back from Hermanus but decided to stay in rather than join us for dinner. Julian Ghinn had arrived but had to go to the office and he had a lot of work to do so he said he would stay late and work tomorrow so that he would come to the boat late afternoon. John Priddle was flying from Amsterdam and had messaged that he was delayed by two hours so that would mean he should arrive by about 11.45pm.
Mark, Paul and I went out to supper. It was bitterly cold and we went to the Fish Market and had a reasonable supper.
We returned to Stormbird and waited and some went to be and I waited for John to arrive. He did arrive and I fetched him and I quickly showed him what he needed to know for overnight.
I was quite tired and went to bed. I seemed to have picked up a cold which made me feel rotten. We were 4 crew members now and 2 more will arrive properly tomorrow making 6.
The picture of the day is 4 of the motley crew on the dock near Stormbird.
